Limeade is a refreshing departure from the classic lemonade, and is just as thirst-quenching on a hot summer day. And if it’s REALLY hot? Why not make it frozen…with frozen blueberries?

Blueberries are another summer classic. They’re not just tasty little treats; they're also described to absolute death as a powerhouse of antioxidants and vitamins.

Limeade and frozen drinks in general can be super sugary, though, negating the well-known health benefits of blueberries. So, I created this recipe to be healthy version. It’s sweet, sour, and super simple!

You only need frozen blueberries, a lime, and a sweetener of your choice.

I’ve reduced the need for sweetener by using less ultra sour lime juice and relying more on lime zest for flavor.

Tips

  • The amount of sweetener you use will depend on how sweet you want it. I used a teaspoon of monkfruit sweetener because I like it tart, but you should at least double that if you want it sweet.

  • The amount of water you use will depend on how powerful your blender is and how liquidy you want your frozen blueberry limeade. In the pictures, you can see that I didn’t use as much water and it has an almost sorbet-like texture. Start with half a cup of water and go from there!

  • Citrus zest is strong—you really don’t need much to get the flavor!

Serving Suggestions:

  • I put mine in a wine glass because…well, why not?! Use any glass you like.

  • If you went for a sorbet texture, you could even eat it out of a bowl with a spoon!

  • Garnish with blueberries, lime wedges, or mint leaves.
