To the delight of novelty snack enthusiasts everywhere, Pringles has consistently come out with new and limited edition flavors over the years. Recently, they’ve been on a roll with their “Sizzl’n” flavors, which are mostly their regular flavors with varying degrees of spice.
Note: “Sizzl’n” flavors are called “Scorchin’” in the US.
My partner and I are fans of the Sizzl’n Sour Cream and Onion flavor (which, even without the Sizzl, is probably the best of the Pringles flavors), so I was excited when I saw this Pringles “Flame” Spicy Chorizo variety in Spain.
What is chorizo?
Chorizo is a spicy, smoky cured pork sausage from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), though it’s popular around the world for its intense flavor.
Are Chorizo Pringles suitable for vegetarians?
Despite being inspired by pork, the Chorizo Pringles are, happily, vegetarian-friendly, though not vegan as they do contain some milk powder.
What do they taste like?
Before I tried the Chorizo Pringles, I was worried they would taste similar to the various barbecue-esque Pringles varieties out there. That seems to happen a lot with Pringles and any flavor related to chilis: it ends up being just kind of vaguely sweet and smoky. When I opened the can, that was indeed how they smelled. The flavor, though, ended up being quite different.
The Chorizo Pringles do, in fact, taste like chorizo. They are quite intensely smoky and sweet, with pepper, garlic, and a hint of spice. I ended up liking them quite a bit, but the reviews were mixed. My dad thought they were okay, and helpfully described the taste as “chorizo”. My partner, however, adamantly insisted that the correct term was “disgusting”.
As a vegetarian, I don’t eat actual chorizo, so my assessment may be colored by that fact. My partner does eat meat and had recently gotten a hefty log of chorizo on our holiday to Spain, so he has much more recent experience with the real thing. He hated these Pringles, and he might be the more reliable source. My dad also has recent chorizo experience, though, and he didn’t have a strong opinion on the Pringles.
The Verdict
According to me, they’re great. According to my dad, they’re okay. According to my partner, they should burn in hell.
Are Flame Spicy Chorizo Pringles good? Are they worth trying? The answer is a resounding maybe.
You’ll have to try them for yourself!
Pringles Flame Spicy Chorizo flavor is only available in Europe, though, so Americans will have to make do with putting a slice of chorizo on a regular Pringle. (Just kidding, maybe don’t do that.)
