Review: IKEA Vintersaga Milk Chocolate Bar with Gingerbread Crumbs

When that special Christmas time of the year rolls around, Swedish home megastore IKEA rolls out their various holiday-themed merchandise. That includes a number of IKEA-brand food stuffs, including the “Vintersaga” gingerbread milk chocolate bar.

IKEA, despite not being a food store, has a decent reputation for their food, particularly their Swedish meatballs. Still, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from their chocolate.

Inside the box-like packaging, the chocolate is wrapped in foil. The bar is thin and looks like plain milk chocolate. Inside, there are tiny crumbs of gingerbread, as the package promises.

The chocolate is tooth-achingly sweet, and, luckily, the gingerbread crumbs are small enough that they don’t stick to your teeth, but do add a little bit of texture. That also means the gingerbread taste is extremely mild.

The Verdict

If you love sweet milk chocolate, you will certainly like this chocolate bar. The quality is better than standard American brands, but Europeans might not be too impressed. The gingerbread adds more texture than it does taste, so if you’re hoping for something a strong ginger taste, look elsewhere.
